Homeless Benefit Festival Osaka

To everyone who wonders why homelessness has to exist in a first world country like Japan…
Come and enjoy a festival created by the homeless themselves for all.
☆Homeless Benefit Fiesta-Osaka☆
Nagai Dairin Matsuri – One Big Union 全員集合!
Date/Time: June 24(Sat) 15:00- 21:00
25(Sun) 10:00-16:00
Place: Nagai Park Jiyu Hiroba
(Southwest side of the park; 5 min. walk from JR Nagai Sta.)

To everyone who wonders why homelessness has to exist in a first world country like Japan… Come and create One Big Union.
Musicians, Dancers, Painters, Counselors, Acupuncturists, Tai-Chi Masters, Shop owners, unemployed, activists, unionists, graffitists, squatters, resisters, hikers, photographers, daydreamers, gardeners, vegetarians and non-vegetarians, teachers and students…..

Here in Nagai Park, over 30 people are living in tents. Today, more and more people are forced to live on the streets and in the parks, while people are being laid off under our government’s neo-liberal globalization system. These individuals are being blamed for their situation and the government stands by without taking any serious actions. Worse yet, the government is hastily creating more discriminating laws and policies;
The Beautification and Purification policies, fencing, charging for park access: These are examples of the new Homeless Law (Homeless Tokusohou).

We are creating a homeless fiesta, organized by the hands of the Osaka homeless from Nagai Park, Ogimachi Park, Utsubo and their supporters.
While Tenjin Matsuri, one of Osaka’s biggest festivals is on the same day, our Matsuri is somewhat different. The Tenjin Matsuri not only excludes the homeless by being a purely commercial event, but it also discriminates against them by ‘cleaning up’ the tents and their living spaces as the festival comes by. Our matsuri, on the other hand, includes all people, united by peace and justice, with the vision of creating a better society now.

During these two days, you can enjoy the following:
★ Lots of live music and dance(folk, rock, story-performance, to name a few; performers to be announced)
★ flea market
★ photo exhibit of the world’s homeless squats
★ Sports event
★ Cultural exchange games and activities
★ Homeless Documentary Film Show
★ Food and drinks
★ Various workshops

*If you and/or your group are interested in playing or to setting up a booth,
please contact us to reserve a space before the second week of July so that we can add you to the bill!!
