A brief analysis of Hawaiian efforts to ban this horrible chemical from human consumption, manufactured primarily by Ajinomoto of Japan, also the world's largest maker of another neurotoxic additive, Monosodium Glutamate
HAWAIIAN LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS TO BAN ASPARTAME BY SEN. ENGLISH AND REP. CARROLL
by Stephen Fox (stephen@ santafefineart.com )
A brief analysis of this vital long overdue consumer protection effort, with legislative contact information for those outside of Hawaii who wish to become involved to rid one state of this neurotoxic poison, and perhaps ring a few bells and turn on some lights at the FDA, if indeed "anyone is home" at the FDA, where Commissioner Von Eschenbach has already ignored 2 letters from 21 NM Legislators, asking him to rescind approval for this poison found in 7000 products.
PLEASE HELP US GET THE WORD OUT IN SUPPORT OF THIS, AND PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO WRITE SOME LETTERS OF YOUR OWN. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS.
THANK YOU AND MAHALO FROM
STEPHEN FOX

Hawaiian Legislative Efforts to Ban Aspartame, Artificial Sweetener
Regarding bills in the Hawaii Legislative session to Ban Artificial sweetener and neurotoxin, Aspartame, House Bill 2680 and Senate Bill 2506
Stephen Fox of Santa Fe, Managing Editor of the Santa Fe Sun News and prime New Mexico moving force behind the legislative efforts to ban aspartame, commented on the great consumer progress implicit in these two bills in
Hawaii:
This is wonderful news coming from Hawaii; the Legislators and their bill drafters saw the merit in keeping almost all of the same language from the 2006 and 2007 New Mexico bills, especially regarding the states' rights and their obligation to protect citizens health, which are not "pre-empted by massive failures at the FDA.
These New Mexico bills were overwhelmed and eviscerated in New Mexico by the most vicious (by far) corporate lobbyists I have ever encountered, representing Ajinomoto of Japan, the world's largest manufacturer of both aspartame and MSG, as well as their duped American corporate
henchmen/partners-in-poisoning who use massive amounts of Aspartame, like Coca Cola, Pepsi, Altria/Kraft Corporate Services, and others. The same corporations and even more will show up in Honolulu, make no mistake....probably to include Wrigley's Gum, all of whose products contain aspartame, which is metabolized as methanol and formaldehyde.
These corporations have everything to lose if such bills advance and ultimately lead to the inevitable product liability and personal injury
suits from those damaged by aspartame, which number in the hundreds of millions, despite their corporate serving propaganda and lies.
My profoundest appreciation goes to the numerous fine Hawaii activists who brought up these imperative issues, and to the Legislators, Senator J. Kalani English and Rep. Calvin Say (Speaker of the House), at the request of Rep. Mele Carroll, all 3 Democrats who see the merit and need to protect the health of all Hawaiians, no matter what duplicity is perpetuated by the top brass and corporate lackeys at the FDA. The Senate Bill is also cosponsored by Suzanne Chun-Oakland, Chairperson of the Senate Human Services Committee, and we sincerely commend these fine legislators for this pre-emptive and
protective legislation.
Let's hope a few other legislators in other states recognize the importance of this, and that the FDA Commissioner, Dr. Andrew Von Eschenbach, chooses not to ignore this urgent initiative, now coming from Hawaii, as he chose to ignore the same effort in New Mexico as well as the letters signed by 21 New Mexico Legislators asking him to immediately rescind the approval for this neurotoxic poison found in 6000 food products.
It is my deepest hope that Hawaii Legislators don't capitulate to corporate-serving theories advanced by the corporate lobbyists that states do not have neither the right nor the power nor the obligation to challenge any kind of Federal authority, like an FDA pronouncement.
When aspartame's history of approval is examined, it will be clear that the FDA Commissioner at the time in 1981, Arthur Hull Hayes, was under a strong influence to approve this chemical, no matter who objected from the medical and scientific community, because the guy from the Reagan "transition team" who gave him the job, Donald Rumsfeld, had been CEO of the aspartame manufacturer, G.D. Searle. Rummy made $25 million off this deal alone!

is not a UN site, but the private rant of mr. fox. while the article above is relevant to japan, and criticizm of aspartame is reasonable enough, the fake UN site makes this qualify as an attempt to spread misinformation.
THE TITLE OF MY WEBSITE IS NOT "DISINFORMATION"; I CLEARED USING THIS NAME WITH TOP U.N. OFFICIALS
10 Feb 2008
The commenter, Volunteer G, has stated in a comment that this is "disinformation" and a fake UN website. Nothing could be further from truth: if you read the website, which Volunteer G has apparently no further than to describe it as a "rant", it is clear that this is a hypothetical idea that we have worked on for years and that it is not and was never intended to be anything official. Volunteer G has disabled my making this comment after his or hers, so I do it this way....the original posting was as a service to health minded readers in Japan who are tired of being poisoned by the neurotoxic and carcinogenic products of Ajinomoto! Volunteer G, please step forward and identify yourself! Are you an agent provocateur, or in the employ of Ajinomoto or Coca Cola, or were you ever in the employ of an Aspartame manufacturer?

no i'm not a government agent and i do not work for ajinomoto. I avoid aspartame and coke products myself and am glad if someone can supply easily understood information about why everyone should.
i'm just really tired (literally tired) of removing spammers and trolls from this newswire, sometimes in the dozens per day and i have a low tolerance for posters who don't try to translate or localize their message and post indiscriminately all over the internet, repost materials from their own sites, etc. etc.. so perhaps i was overzealous. but basically this newswire is not a site for reposting material already published on your own site or elsewhere, written for a different audience. (see editorial guidelines in the 'about IMCjp' section for details)
I've also done some work with the UN in my working life and know a bit about how they protect their logo. your site invokes the impression that this is an official UN site, of a high-level UN commission, which it is not, hence my judgement that you're trying to spread disinfo. again, i was perhaps rash in my judgement.
so i will unhide your article this time, but will continue to hide similar posts (not only yours) in the future.
for the future, please
1 write an original posting for this site that is easily understood for people in Japan without background knowledge of the issue.
2 supply some clarification about the connection of your site to the UN, and some substantiation (e.g. a link from a bona fide UN site to your site, etc.).
3 create a user account and post after logging in so you can be easily contacted in case we have a question about your postings. that way we don't have to lead these discussions on the newswire.
if the article is well-written and of local interest, perhaps someone will even volunteer to translate it. i think that would be good for everyone involved, wouldn't it?
To explain why i don't id myself except by initial: aggressive over-posters have cyberstalked volunteers with whom they disagreed in the past, and i would rather protect myself from such things.
thank you for your understanding.

For a critical view of the chemical, see CSPINET.
One may well ask why this stuff is being put into our food in the first place, oir indeed why we are consuming 12 cubes of sugar in every non artificially sweetened coke, or why Coca Cola exploits child workers and shoots unionists. These are all worthy of discussion. But don't come off as the expert that knows for a fact that A is even worse than it has been shown to be and also hide behind official sounding names.
